Sarah Hunter is a Philadelphia born and based artist, focusing on oil painting and graphite drawing. Her inspirations include artists such as Giotto, Philip Guston and Honore Sharrer, images pertaining to the natural sciences, and the history and landscape of her home city. New work incorporates found digital elements, such as stills from Youtube videos and google maps, in addition to her own source photography. This recent work focuses on what can be learned of a society through examination of its non-human inhabitants: what does the existence, removal, and remembrance of built and natural structures mean to the essence of a place and its people?
Hunter earned her MFA from the University of Delaware in 2020. When not teaching at area art centers or observing the changing seasons in nearby parks, she can be found drawing out of a basement studio with 5 cats in South Philadelphia.
